Fly me to the Moon

MOON by Jacob Smith
Production
Moon is the British Feature film directed by Duncan Jones (Born as Zowie Bowie) who has now directed the Movie Source code, Produced by Trudie Snyder (one of the geniuses behind the gangster comedy snatch) and written was co-written by Nathan Parker who is now working on the pre-production for the film 2:22 which is due next year.
The movie helped Launch Actor Sam Rockwell's Career as he is the lead and practically the only role in the movie. The companies behind the screenings were shown theatrically by Sony pictures classics and then released on DVD by stage 6 films.
The movie had a cheap budget of only 3.23206206 pounds (5 million dollars) to fund every aspect of the film, the director kept cost to a minimum by shooting every scene within a studio and by keeping the cast list short (10 people in total).
Every thing was filmed within 33 days and was recorded in a 360 degree set. The designer of the rover landers and the harvesters was the Bill Pearson who created the initial designs for the Movie Alien.
The budget was so small that the parent company Sony refused to have it observed by the Oscar panel due to the cost and in case it were pirated.
Kevin Spacey who voiced the robot GERTY in the film waited for the film to be finished before recording the voice of GERTY.
Distribution and Exhibition
Sony picture classics also helped to distribute other small films such as ' House of flying daggers' and 'Layer cake'.

classical

The hit British film 'Kickass' contains outburst of contrapuntal music during the torture scenes of the film.
The non digetic music is contrapuntal, because the classical music does not match the on-screen violance.

in this scene Frank DiMico's gang locks 'the Russian' in a new timber microwave with eerie classical music i the background.

another example of this within the film is the car compactor scene.

throughout the course of the film is the constant asynchronous narration by the main character Dave (kick- ass)

the story so far...

Action match: A shot that cuts to another continuing a piece of action or movement between the shots. This allows audience to see a smooth action despite a cut in the shot. For example we might see someone shoot a gun, and the editor would perform an action match so we see the bullet hit someone else and they fit together seamlessly so we see both people’s perspectives.
Montage: a montage is a series of shots edited together to show time passing and something happening in that time. Famous examples are in Rocky where we see a montage of shots of Rocky training and getting better and better.
Asynchronous sound- sound that doesn’t match what is seen on screen
Contrapuntal sound- Sound or music that seems strange or doesn’t fit the scene we are seeing.
Dialogue- what the characters say and how they say it.

Hollywood film industry

·         Major studios are vertically, horizontally and laterally integrated and are now part of massive media conglomerates which created an ‘oligopoly’ in the film industry, the so called ‘Big Six’.
·         Big budget Blockbusters often follows the ‘high concept’ model in order to a mass audience.
·         Films are often sequels, prequels and remakes or based upon a successful book, TV programme or even video game to minimise financial risk and to increase profit.
·         SFX and stars = high concept model
Distribution window - the certain time in the year when the film will be more successful
·         Conglomerates will use synergy e.g. a soundtrack or video game could be produced by a different company.
Synergy is when a product is created from a film.
Simultaneous release- shown in as many screenings as physically possible
Film festivals are used as an attempt to get your film distributed.
Independent means when they act outside of the other main companies.
Above the line and below the line of advertising
‘Above the line’ is a type of advertising through media such as television, cinema, radio, print, web banners and web search engines to promote brands. This type of communication is conventional in nature in nature and is considered impersonal to customers.
‘Below the line’ is efficient and cost-effective for targeting a limited and specific group. This can take form of tie in’s with other products and companies.

Lost analysis- the character Jack
Brave as he willingly dives into the danger zone to help those in need, strong as he could lift debris of a man, smart as he knew the correct procedures for helping everyone trapped of dying, daring as he helps everyone as humanly possible despite the panic and chaos that’s occurring around him, he is a doctor or someone with medical training he shows this by being used to seeing blood and by having a knowledge of medical procedures, his costume is very business class as he is seen wearing a formal suit with a tie and by having short trimmed hair, quick thinker he knew that he had to act fast otherwise more lives would be lost, smiles when he sees the dog this shows that he is human of at least has a childish side he also shows this by having a sense of humour, carries alcohol he could be an alcoholic, doesn’t want the others to see that he is in pain shows that he wants to be seen as a strong person, natural leader he takes control over the situation and orders the other survivors into helping, fearless the events seem to have no effect on him he also ran into the middle of the danger zone to provide aid. The camera is either at eye level to show that he is an everyday man or it is looking up to him to show that he is strong and is looked up to like a leader.
